Heres a way to tell if your garden and landscaping plans need extra help (by buying more garden plants) or whether you can relax. Gently remove (and I do mean gently) some of the dirt around the crown of the plant. If the crown is hard and firm, then its alive and you should cover it back up, go and have a cup of coffee and relax. It will grow when its ready. If the garden plant is soft and mushy, its done and youre going to have to replant or transplant something else in there. And no, theres nothing you can do in your garden right now to help plants decide – its all about the weather (cold and rainy retards plant growth; hot and sunny brings it on)
